SPIRALS

Spirals in nature.

Spirals can depict movement. Spirals can be found inside buildings. Spirals can also be found in nature.

Picture one shows the remaining of a cut up cabbage and how the core seems to have spiral movement. This movement reminds me of  a few architectural ideas and also the limitation of these ideas. From the picture itself it can be seen that if you want to create space in between the spiral movement, you will break the flow and the cabbage at the same time. This shows that if I were to apply spirals into architecture, I must know the limitations my material.

Spiral staircases found alongside nature are a hard find in Singapore. Why is it so? Does it take up a lot of space or does it cause inconvenience? Or people generally hate walking down/up a spiral staircase? If I were to apply this in design, does it cause me to have a lot of limitations? Spirals can be applied to product design. However, in this recent day and age, we hardly use spirals in our design because one, it takes up space because you have to start with a big area, second, it takes skills to bend certain materials into a spiral shape.

Looking at spirals found in nature, I think we can see a lot of movement. Looking at spirals evokes

a fun and happy atmosphere. Spirals in nature can inspire a lot of artists. It ca also be used to teach young children on how fun art can be.

I personally think that maybe we can create spiral bottles made by the silicon material. Although it is definitely not going to have much capacity, I think it a way for people to see how fun spirals can be. 

CARS

Cars. An innovation that make the 21st Century the way it is now. Although cars is also a contributor of pollution and some might discredit it, it is very important to note that cars have created a lot of stuff and it is not just being a form of transport. Cars have helped people to cross terrains and borders, to be able to reach out to the poor in less developed countries, to be able to transport information from one county to another, to be able to connect people together, we owe these to the innovations of cars.



In the picture, on a more creative thinking, I think the front of the car looks like an angry cucumber. Or maybe a sassy one. It also weirdly reminds me of an onion.

So I thought, what if a car was literally made up of a cucumber? I bet it would definitely be a sight to see! Obviously, natural vegetations like cucumbers should never be made into a car because of the juice inside it ( I can literally imagine the cucumber melting down because of the heat of the motors right now ) but wouldn't it be cool to see it in an art exhibition? By the way yes the preservation of a cucumber is still a big issue, but still it is a creative way of using vegetation as mediums in art.

On a more scientific side, do you think we can ever  combine the two together? Like a cucumber and a car? Can I make cucumber fuel? I remember someone actually invented tomato fuel so what about cucumbers? Cucumbers are generally fresh and cool, so what if I use it to cool down my motors? So that it reduce the chances of my motors heating up? Maybe something like cucumber gel or a cucumber juice spraying machine?  Would that even work?

REFLECTION 

Because due to Singapore crowd issues, it was really hard to find a place where I can ( not awkwardly  ) take a nice picture of my reflection at a shop window. Also there was a restriction on photographic abilities. So I hope this would do. Anyway when I see myself in a shop reflection, I can see a reflection of myself that seems to be filled with thoughts. What if there was a sudden black whole that consumes me into it when I look at my own reflection in a mirror? I feel that looking at your own reflection in a shop window give an enigmatic feel. It would be interesting to have a set of installation on people's reflection in a shop because it brings about an enigma, a combination of human purest feelings when they look at themselves. Loneliness, Calmness etc can be evoke by looking at our own reflection.
