WEEK 01: A JOURNEY.

TIM BURTON's TED TALK SUMMARY

As adults, we are afraid of taking risks. We fear the judgement of our peers. In a difficult situation, we tend to want to categorise the problem fast as we are afraid of complications. We are also conservative in our thinking, and unwilling to take risks to maximise our thinking and creativity.

Hence, being able to balance between convergent ( serious ) an divergent ( play ) thinking is essential to maximise our own creativeness to create ideas that will benefit both us and others. Based on using children as prime example, Role-playing and Constructing are important stimulations of creativeness , even if it sounds like play. Explorations happens when one role-play with others, thus creating a stimulative environment  to let people believe in taking risks and be provocative in their thinking, which is free thinking.

In conclusion, trust to play, trust to be creative. Exploration, Construction and Role-Playing stimulates free thinking. Lastly, play is not anarchy. Play must be productive and as designers we must be able to transit between play and work well.

Thoughts of the week:

Role-Playing, Constructing and Exploring stimulates free thinking. Provocative ideas are as important as conservative ideas. I'm still young, I've got a lot to learn and also I must tke time to observe my surrounding with new perspectives.
